I never get calls from scammers anymore. I used to get a lot of calls every day from various scammers saying they were going to turn off my electricity unless I paid them right now, they were going to arrest me unless I paid a warrant for my arrest, etc, etc. I used to just hang up on them, or ignore the calls, but that didn’t stop the calls. So you might be asking, what did finally stop the calls? It’s a little unconventional, but I messed with the scammers.
It actually started to be fun until all of the calls stopped. I am pretty sure there must be this giant red mark next to my phone number that says: Do NOT call her. She will keep you on the phone for 20 minutes. LOL. At first I would answer the phone and say something silly like, “911, what’s your emergency?” This would anger the scammers and they would yell at me and try to tell me their spiel anyway, and they kept calling back. I would repeat everything they said. Repeating everything they said really pissed them off. One guy got so angry at me I thought he was going to have a heart attack. But one day I got this brilliant idea to talk to this one particular scammer about himself.
This particular scammer spoke English really well, and at first I did my I usual repeating what he said etc, etc. But then suddenly, I asked him where he was calling me from. He hesitated and kept going with his spiel. I said, “No seriously! Where do you live? I mean you know by now I’m not going to pay you the $300 you’re asking me for.” He hesitated for a second and then he said,”I live in Lebanon. Where do you live?” Oh wait a minute, I thought these guys had our addresses and information. I asked him if he knew what country he was calling, and he told me that he just knew he was calling the United States, but that was all. So of course I didn’t tell him what city I live in, but I did tell him that I live in Southern California, and he was really exited by this and asked me if I ever go to the beach. We talked about California for a bit. Then I asked him if he was married and he said that he was not because he was only 30 years old. He ended up explaining that they all work in a call center and paid hourly as well as getting commission for everyone they scam. The more money they get out of people, the better. He told me that I had a nice voice and asked me if I’m hot. Haha! I asked him what it was like to live in Lebanon, and he said it was not that good, and this job was practically the only good job to have. The scammer wanted to know if he was going to be on YouTube. He asked me what I did for a living and was interested in the fact that I was a therapist. Then he asked if he could ever visit me. Suuuuure…..and finally he wanted to talk to my husband, so I handed the phone over to my husband who jumped right in and had a conversation with the guy. I kept him on the phone for 15 minutes before he said that his supervisor was walking over and giving him a look because he had been on the phone with me too long. He started whispering that he had to go, so we said goodbye. I think he got in trouble. He even told me his name which was Amal Lol.
The next scammer who called I immediately asked him his name. He hesitated and all of a sudden started tell me, “I love you! You’re hot! I want to marry you!!” I burst out laughing and we were both laughing. And no, it was not Amal. And after that I did not get any calls from scammers. Not a one. It’s been 2 years since I have gotten a scammer call other than the automated car warranty call, but even those have dwindled down. So if you want to get rid of scammers, ask them questions about their lives….that is sure to get you off of the scammer list. It worked for me.
